Russian president Vladimir Putin addressed the current geopolitical situation, emphasizing the irreversibility of a multipolar world.
He claimed this at the plenary session of the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
Putin reacted to what he described as Western attempts to maintain global hegemony, using a Russian proverb: «Against a crowbar, there is no method except another crowbar.»
The Russian leader said that multipolarity has already become a practical reality. According to him, no one is willing to play by rules set «across the oceans.»
«There is and will be no power capable of governing the world, dictating to everyone „how to breathe, ” Putin stressed.
He warned that in today’s global situation, nations must be ready for anything, as «the stakes are extremely high.» In Putin’s view, Western attempts to control everything create excessive strain and negatively affect the internal stability of Western states themselves.
