Another massive strike on Ukraine: What is known about casualties, impacts, and fires

Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Khmelnytskyi regions came under a heavy enemy assault overnight.

On the night of September 28, Russia launched a combined strike on Ukraine, using drones and cruise missiles. Explosions rocked several regions, including Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa. The Air Force reported downing part of the incoming targets, yet serious destruction and fires were still confirmed.

TSN.ua has gathered everything currently known about the September 28 air assault on Ukraine.

Kyiv

Ukraine’s capital endured a fierce, mixed strike. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported multiple buildings damaged by falling Shahed debris across all districts. In particular, a five-story building in the Solomianskyi district was partially destroyed, and the number of injured continues to rise.

According to the latest information, the death toll stands at four people. Among the victims is a 12-year-old girl who was pulled from the rubble.

The State Emergency Service (SES) specified that the Russians hit the building of the Institute of Cardiology. Two people were killed there. The SES also confirmed that the body of the 12-year-old girl was recovered from the debris of a five-story building.

Kyiv region

By morning, the Air Force reported cruise missile attacks on Bila Tserkva, Irpin, Obukhiv, and Vasylkiv. The air assault began just after midnight and dragged on until shortly before 10 a.m.

The Regional Military Administration reported that the aftermath of the attack was recorded in four districts of the region: Bucha, Fastiv, Bila Tserkva, and Obukhiv.

Later, the Regional Administration specified that 27 people were injured in the Fastiv district. All necessary medical care is being provided on site.

A fire broke out on the grounds of an industrial facility, but it has since been extinguished.

Zaporizhzhia region

Zaporizhzhia is reeling after Russia’s massive September 28 strike. The aftermath of the attacks is grim: residential apartment blocks lie mangled, and the number of victims keeps climbing. So far, 27 people are confirmed injured in the assault.

In Zaporizhzhia, a residential building has been damaged, several apartments are on fire.

Head of the Regional Military Administration Ivan Fedorov reports that all emergency services are operating at the scene, and medical teams are providing necessary aid to the injured.

Odesa region

Odesa region was also hit by a large-scale strike. One industrial facility was damaged, sparking a fire that firefighters have since extinguished. The roof of a nearby private home was also damaged. Preliminary reports indicate that no one was hurt.

Some missiles reached Khmelnytskyi region and around 6:30 a.m. attacked Starokostiantyniv. Vinnytsia region was also targeted, with missiles heading toward Tulchyn, Bershad, and Nemyriv.

After 7 a.m., the air raid alert was lifted in the western regions of the country, and monitoring channels reported that there were no more missiles over Ukraine.
