Belarus provides Russia with radio frequencies to control drones, complicating air defenses
The occupiers have gained access to Belarusian radio frequencies. This allows Russian military forces to remotely control drones directly from the territory of Belarus.
Air defense
The use of Belarus’s airspace and technical infrastructure directly affects the effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defense, said President of the All-Ukrainian Aviation Organisation Hennadiy Khazan, speaking on the KYIV24 TV channel.
“Belarus’s airspace is being partially used, along with electronic systems located on the country’s territory. The leaders of this state are effectively allowing Russian military forces to use frequency resources belonging to the Republic of Belarus in order to control drones,” Khazan said.
Why this matters
The use of Belarusian frequencies and electronic warfare assets creates additional challenges for Ukraine’s mobile fire groups and electronic warfare units. It allows the enemy to change drone routes in real time in an attempt to bypass air defense coverage zones.
