Mykhailo Honchar, Head of the Strategy XXI Center for Global Studies, stated in an interview with TSN.ua that China has not altered its position regarding Russia's war in Ukraine. Beijing is profiting from Putin’s military invasion, and no genuine Chinese "peace plan" exists.

"Beijing's periodic calls for the parties to sit down at the negotiating table are merely ritualistic. But sit down for what? To resolve the "Ukrainian crisis"—precisely as outlined in their position paper from February 24, 2023," the expert said.

Honchar is convinced that China has taken a definitive stance on the war, siding with Russia because it "yields benefits."

"Furthermore, when people speak of some "peace plan" from China, no such thing exists in reality. No one in Beijing has suggested an updated approach given the current situation. There is none of that. Meanwhile, China and Russia have begun cooperating more closely in the purely military sphere. China is on Russia's side, and it is unlikely to switch sides," he explained.

According to him, China will continue to exploit the situation for its own benefit across all sectors.

"This includes cheap oil and various other resources. Additionally, Chinese goods have flooded the Russian market, displacing domestic manufacturers. One only needs to look at the Russian automotive industry," Honchar concluded.
