Conducting elections in Ukraine: MP explains factors complicating the process
Member of Parliament Olena Shuliak believes that the priority should be to end the war first, before “speculating” about elections.

Discussing the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine is premature due to the destruction of thousands of polling stations. Additionally, citizens currently on the front lines must be able cast their votes.
Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Power Organization Olena Shuliak said this, during a broadcast of Day.LIVE.
She emphasized that preparing legislation and infrastructure requires time, making the end of the war the top priority.
"I agree with the President: the main thing is to avoid division. Unity is crucial in matters of achieving a just peace, not in debating when to hold elections," she stated.
The primary issue, Shuliak explains, is that thousands of polling stations have been physically destroyed and no longer exist. Therefore, it is necessary to determine where they will operate, whether the locations are suitable, and so on.
Another challenge is that a large number of people are currently fighting for Ukraine’s freedom in combat zones.
"When a country is at war, a million people are on the front lines. These people must have the right to vote and be elected. How can elections be held without them?" the deputy concluded.
