A Russian large-scale overnight attack damaged residential buildings and education facilities in Odesa and triggered fires. The heaviest damage was sustained by a vocational lyceum that had only recently been restored after a previous strike.

This was reported by Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.

Damage in Odesa

The overnight strike damaged Preschool Education Facility No. 14, a nursery-kindergarten. The blast wave blew out windows and damaged interior doors.

The heaviest damage was once again sustained by the Odesa Vocational Lyceum of Construction and Architecture. The institution had only recently been hit by another drone strike, when more than 200 windows were destroyed and several training laboratories were damaged.

The enemy attacked it again overnight. The lyceum, one of the city’s leading vocational education institutions, sustained significant damage. A fire broke out in the building and was quickly extinguished by emergency services.

All relevant services are currently working at the sites to document the aftermath of the shelling and assess the damage. Details are being clarified.

Kiper said education institutions in the Odesa region are operating remotely on Jan. 27 due to difficult weather conditions. Further decisions and possible changes to the organization of the education process will be announced later.

People trapped under rubble

Witnesses say an 86-year-old woman who uses a walker was trapped under rubble in the basement of a residential building. Local residents said there was no electricity, heating or water in the basement and urged that she be rescued as soon as possible. Emergency services are working at the scene.

Local Telegram channels, citing emergency responders, report up to three people may be trapped under the rubble.
