Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on Odesa overnight on March 28, using more than 60 drones. Eleven people were injured, including a child, and two people were killed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the Russian attack, saying it had no military purpose and targeted civilians.
He said a maternity hospital, residential buildings, businesses, and port and critical infrastructure facilities were damaged.
Emergency services remain at the scene, working to deal with the aftermath and assist the injured, the president added.
“Unfortunately, at this moment we know that one person has been killed. My condolences to the family and loved ones. More than ten people are injured, including a child,” the statement said.
Russia also launched strikes overnight on the Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Zelenskyy said the attacks demonstrated Russia’s unwillingness to end the war and warned that any easing of pressure on Moscow would be dangerous.
“Coordinated efforts to protect people and save lives will help our defense and diplomacy. I thank all partners working with us and supporting our people. We continue to work with everyone to strengthen our country and expand our capacity to protect lives across Ukraine every day and night — our cities, villages and infrastructure. Joint protection and coordinated action can work best,” the president added.
