New ERAM missiles for Ukraine — why they are a «doom» for Russian targets, expert explains

Ukraine will receive new ERAM missiles

Ukraine is set to receive ERAM ammunition from the U.S. in October in two main configurations: guided bombs with rocket engines and compact cruise missiles.

Aviation expert and senior researcher at the Antonov State Aviation Museum Valeriy Romanenko told this on Radio NV.

According to Romanenko, both variants feature the same warhead weighing 227 kg (500 pounds). Although this is a relatively small charge, its key advantage lies elsewhere.

«It’s not a lot. But this is a munition that will be capable of performing a penetrating action. That is, it won’t explode on the roof of a building like our drones do. Instead, it will first penetrate the roof, enter the premises, and then explode inside,» Romanenko explains.

The expert emphasizes that these munitions pose a serious threat to all Russian military and industrial facilities within their strike range.

«The flight range of the cruise bombs is about 260 km, and for the cruise missiles — up to 400 km,» the expert added.

According to him, Ukraine will likely be able to deploy such weapons as early as November.

«If it becomes necessary to destroy some oil pumping station, then not just one room could be hit, but the entire block. You could drop a dozen such bombs across the entire area. And after that, there would be nothing left to restore,» he said.
