Russia bolsters Crimea’s defenses — Pletenchuk
Russian forces are bolstering the defenses of temporarily occupied Crimea amid growing concerns over potential Ukrainian amphibious operations.
This was stated by Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk in an interview with The Kyiv Independent.
According to Pletenchuk, the occupying forces are fortifying the areas of the peninsula they deem most vulnerable to a potential landing.
«The Russians are fortifying Crimean areas vulnerable to landings because they view this as a real threat,» Pletenchuk said.
He stressed that amphibious operations remain a vital component of modern warfare. Ukrainian marines, he added, continue to train and rehearse various operational scenarios.
At the same time, the Navy spokesman highlights that Ukraine has successfully secured its own maritime corridor, pushed Russian warships away from its coastline, and adapted to the new realities of naval warfare, where unmanned systems play a pivotal role.
He noted that the nature of combat at sea has shifted significantly due to the active deployment of drones, which have emerged as a key factor in the confrontation.
