Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the situation with financial assistance from the European Union amid discussions over possible unblocking of a loan.

EU loan delay: risks for Ukraine’s military

The head of state said the decision to provide Ukraine with a loan had been agreed by all EU leaders in advance, but implementation is now being delayed. Ukraine expects a swift resolution or an alternative financing mechanism.

“Providing Ukraine with a loan is a position agreed by all EU leaders at the end of 2025. The alternative to this step is a question for the European Union today,” President Zelenskyy says.

The Ukrainian leader added that Kyiv would welcome efforts to unblock the format.

“If it is not unblocked, we hope for an alternative that will allow us to receive these funds. Otherwise, the Ukrainian army will be underfunded,” the presdient said.

According to him, drone production and air defense systems would also face funding shortfalls.

“Because we allocate funds from this source for European air defense systems and U.S. PAC-3 missiles. This is a risk for everyone. This is a risk for European security. I believe there will be no collapse and Europeans will resolve this issue,” Zelenskyy said.

The president stresses that weapons production and strengthening Ukraine’s air defense directly depend on the funding. He also expressed hope that European partners would find a solution and provide the necessary support.
