On the evening of Thursday, May 14, the Russian occupying army carried out another deliberate drone attack on civilian infrastructure in southern Ukraine. An important energy facility in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district sustained significant damage.
Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported on the aftermath of the Russian terror.
Blacked-out villages and backup power
The regional head said the precision UAV strike caused a massive emergency power outage. In an instant, 32 settlements in the district were plunged into darkness, leaving over 15,000 subscribers without electricity. Despite the severe infrastructure damage, there were no civilian casualties.
To prevent a humanitarian crisis, local authorities immediately ordered all critical infrastructure facilities to switch to backup power sources.
Significant damage to a DTEK facility
DTEK confirmed that one of its energy facilities was the target of the enemy strike. Specialists say the equipment suffered substantial damage, and full restoration of the system will require additional time.
Energy crews immediately began emergency restoration work at the strike site. Thanks to their rapid response, 12,000 subscribers had been reconnected by 9:00 p.m. Currently, 3,000 homes are still cut off; repair teams are working non-stop to bring the grid back online.
