Kyiv tragedy: A Russian Kh-101 reduced the building entrance to rubble — rescuers are still searching for people under the ruins

According to preliminary data, a Russian Kh-101 missile struck a residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, killing 12 people, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during his address on May 14.

«We are identifying exactly which weapons—which missiles and drones—the Russians used this time. In Kyiv, preliminary data shows the building was hit by a Kh-101,» the president said.

According to him, the Russians manufactured this missile in the second quarter of 2026, meaning roughly a month ago.

«This proves Russia is still sourcing the components, resources, and equipment for missile production by dodging global sanctions. Stopping Russian evasion schemes must be the actual goal for all our partners,» Zelenskyy urged.

The president said that operations at the impact site are still underway. The Russian strike literally erased the building from the first to the ninth floor.

«Rescuers are searching for those under the rubble, trying to find those still missing who might have been inside,» he said.

Zelenskyy stressed that over two days of virtually non-stop aerial attacks, Russia launched over 1,500 drones and 56 missiles. Hits were confirmed across most regions: from Zakarpattia to Kharkiv, as well as Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Volyn, Odesa, Poltava, and Sumy.
