Spokesman for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi, criticized Russia’s stance on peace talks, stating that Kremlin is not genuinely seeking peace but rather looking for ways to prolong war.
The statement was published by Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry in response to comments from a representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
Heorhii Tykhyi confirmed that this year, Ukrainian delegation visited Istanbul multiple times for direct talks with Russian side. However, results of those meetings were extremely unsatisfactory.
“Unfortunately, they saw a group of low-level individuals presenting same old ultimatums and lacking any authority to make decisions,” emphasized Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Ukrainian side directly pointed to reason for failed dialogue.
“The reason is simple: Putin is not seeking peace, he is looking for ways to continue war,” said the spokesperson.
At the end of his statement, Heorhii Tykhyi clearly outlined the condition for genuine peace.
“Tell your boss to stop war. When he’s ready — we can hold a leaders’ meeting and agree on ceasefire,” he concluded.
