The International Committee of the Red Cross equated strikes by Russia’s terrorist army on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure with attacks by the Defense Forces on Russia’s oil facilities, through which Moscow finances the war.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the organisation’s statement a disgrace.

«False moral equivalence between an aggressor and a country defending itself is unacceptable. Unlike Russia, Ukraine acts within the international humanitarian law and our inherent right to self-defense, ” he said.

The Foreign Minister said that no surprise the ICRC’s reputation is in crisis due to statements that «whitewash Russian war crimes and further undermine trust in the organisation.»

He also recalled the organisation’s «long-standing inability» to secure systematic access to Ukrainian POWs and civilians illegally detained by Russia.

Andrii Sybiha said the ICRC head in Ukraine will be summoned to the Foreign Ministry.

«I also invite the people who wrote and authorized this statement to leave their warm offices, come to Ukraine, and spend a day in a freezing home. Perhaps they will regain their sense of reality, ” he said.

Andrii Sybiha reposted a Red Cross statement on social media saying recent strikes on Ukraine and Russia’s critical infrastructure «have left millions of people with little or no electricity, water, and heating amid freezing temperatures in Kyiv, Dnipro, Donetsk, Belgorod, and other areas.»

«Attacks causing disproportionate harm to civilians, including by depriving their access to essential services such as electricity and heating that are essential for survival right now, are prohibited, ” the statement said, signed by Ariane Bauer, ICRC regional director for Europe and Central Asia.
