The Russian army launched a massive attack on the Poltava and Sumy regions overnight into October 7, striking energy and railway infrastructure.
This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Restoration and Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba.
In Poltava, the attack hit a locomotive depot, power supply section, and traction substations. Administrative and warehouse buildings, as well as rolling stock, were damaged. Fires broke out but were extinguished by rescuers. There were no casualties.
Due to the attack, trains from Kharkiv to Lviv, Lviv to Kharkiv, and Kramatorsk to Lviv were temporarily delayed. They are now all in motion.
An energy facility was damaged by a hit, leaving more than 1,000 households in Poltava and surrounding areas without electricity.
A similar situation was recorded in Sumy, where residential buildings were damaged and parts of the city were left without power.
On-site headquarters are working to address the aftermath of the enemy strikes. Specialists are surveying the areas, restoring power supply, and assisting residents.
Railway traffic has been stabilized, and critical infrastructure is gradually returning to operation.
«The enemy’s goal is clear—Russia is trying to weaponize cold and darkness. The enemy wants to disrupt the heating season and paralyze Ukrzaliznytsia’s operations, which remains a critical artery of the country,» Kuleba noted
