Russia’s statements about allowing journalists into Pokrovsk are far from random.

Russian officials have claimed they are ready to suspend hostilities for 5–6 hours in the Pokrovsk area to enable access for foreign journalists. This signals one thing: the occupiers are facing difficulties.

This was stated on air by Roman Svitan, a retired Ukrainian Air Force colonel, flight instructor, and military expert.

Putin seeks an operational pause

As Svitan says, the attempt to take an operational pause has nothing to do with halting the offensive. Russian forces are currently in critical need of a pause—even a brief one. For instance, to bring in fresh reserves.

“The main request is a pause. That means the enemy has got itself into trouble,” he stresses.

The expert explains that the Russian dictator is trying to rescue his troops in Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk.

“For now, they’re stuck there. But during the pause, the enemy could use the time to form new tactical groups,” Svitan added.

In Myrnohrad and Rodynske, Russian forces have encountered problems, and Putin is looking for ways to resolve them.

As for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the retired colonel added, our troops must identify weak spots in this sector and press on the occupiers. He also urged not to fall for provocations or offers from the Kremlin.
