Russia launches combined overnight strike: Ihnat highlights new feature of attack

During today's attack one of the Kinzhal missiles was intercepted. Overnight on October 10, Russia conducted a combined massive strike across various regions of Ukraine. Energy and gas production infrastructure came under fire from drones and various missile types, including Kinzhals.

Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command Yurii Ihnat, said this on the air of the telethon.

According to him, the Russian attack this night was more dispersed—not concentrated on one specific region, but affecting different parts of the country.

"The feature of this strike is the use of a large number of ballistic missiles. In addition to two aeroballistic Kinzhals, 14 ballistic missiles — "Iskander-M" or KN-23 — were used simultaneously,” Ihnat explained.

The ballistic missiles approached from different directions, targeting critical infrastructure sites.

“Today, the enemy specifically focused on striking the energy sector,”  the Air Force representative stressed.

According to him, during today’s attack, one of the “Kinzhal” missiles and four ballistic missiles were intercepted. Ihnat also stressed that Patriot is a powerful system that can indeed shoot down ballistic missiles. However, it has limitations, as its effective radius against ballistic trajectories is relatively small — approximately several tens of kilometers.

That is why, Yurii Ihnat explained, to reliably cover the entire territory of Ukraine, a large number of such systems is required. Otherwise, during massive attacks with many ballistic missiles coming from different directions, interception cannot always be ensured in full.
