A massive forest fire caused by Russian military aggression continues to burn in northern Chernihiv region. The blaze has already spread across roughly 2,400 hectares, while the situation remains critical because full-scale firefighting is impossible.

This was reported by the Northern Forest Office branch on Facebook.

The fire broke out on May 5 in forest areas of the Koriukivka forestry. The blaze rapidly spread across two districts — Yelynske and Tykhonovychi. Russian military actions are officially named as the main cause of the wildfire.

The agency states that the disaster is raging in areas potentially contaminated with explosives. This creates lethal risks for anyone attempting to approach the epicenter.

A full-scale firefighting operation is currently impossible. Beyond the mine danger, the work of foresters and State Emergency Service rescuers is obstructed by enemy aviation.

«Enemy drones are constantly spotted over the territory, posing a direct threat to „Forests of Ukraine' staff and SES rescuers,“ the report reads.

Specialists emphasize that human safety remains the priority; therefore, firefighting efforts are conducted only after accounting for all possible risks.

«A massive fire caused by Russian military aggression continues in the forests of northern Chernihiv region. The fire broke out in forest areas potentially contaminated with explosive objects. Due to the extremely difficult security situation, full elimination of the fire is currently impossible,» the agency stressed.
