Russia has effectively rejected the ceasefire proposal and continues striking Ukrainian territory.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement during his address on May 6.

According to him, despite Ukraine’s initiative to establish a total ceasefire, Moscow responded with new attacks.

«As of today, we see that Russia has responded to our ceasefire proposal only with new strikes, new attacks,» he stated.

Throughout the day, reports of strikes came in from various regions, including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Not a single direction of Russian military activity was halted.

The president stressed that Ukraine will respond in a reciprocal manner. Further steps will depend on how the situation develops overnight and in the coming day, but, he said, the response will be «fair.»

«Ukraine will act reciprocally. Depending on the situation overnight and tomorrow, we will determine our fully justified responses, ” he said.

Zelenskyy said that Kyiv is open to a diplomatic settlement and has sent Russia clear signals regarding the possibility of agreements. At the same time, the decision to continue the war depends on the Russian leadership.

«Russia received a clear proposal from us regarding silence and diplomacy and knows how to contact Ukraine or partners to agree on details. If that one person in Moscow, who cannot live without war, is only interested in one parade and nothing else, then that is another matter,» he said.

The president also said that the current situation demonstrates a shift in the balance — even the holding of key symbolic events in Russia, including the May 9 military parade, depends on Ukraine’s actions.

«Russia has fought to the point where even their main parade already depends on us,» Zelenskyy said.

The President also thanked international partners for supporting the ceasefire initiative and said that Ukraine seeks to end the war on dignified terms.
