Ukraine submitted a request to hold an urgent UN Security Council meeting due to the recent large-scale Russian bombardments of the country.

Ukrinform reports this.

«I have just signed a letter to the President of the UN Security Council requesting the urgent convening of a Security Council meeting in response to Russia’s escalating missile terror against Ukraine’s civilian population, ” said Andriy Melnyk, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN.

He emphasized that the massive Russian attack the previous night alone claimed the lives of many Kyiv residents. Over a hundred people were injured, and residential buildings were once again reduced to rubble. Melnyk stressed that the actions of the Moscow regime constitute crimes against humanity, demanding not only condemnation but also «a decisive response and practical actions from the international community, particularly the UN Security Council.»

The diplomat added that on Tuesday, he will meet with Guyana’s Ambassador to the UN, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, who is presiding over the Security Council, to discuss further steps in accordance with the UN Charter.

«I hope the members of the Security Council will deliver a strong response to Russia’s criminal actions. It is time to end the Kremlin’s impunity, ” Melnyk concluded.
