The SSU and the Defense Forces have initiated massive security measures in northern Ukrainian regions bordering Russia and Belarus. Citizens are warned of potential identity checks, vehicle inspections, and traffic restrictions in certain settlements, the Security Service of Ukraine says.

The operations follow a directive from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. They cover the Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Volyn, and Rivne regions.

The SSU emphasizes that this is an unprecedentedly large complex of actions in the territories bordering Russia and Belarus. Their goal is to tighten counterintelligence and counter-sabotage defense and block enemy groups from infiltrating border areas.

The SSU Antiterrorist Center is coordinating the efforts. The operations involve units from the Security Service, the National Police, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service.

First and foremost, security forces aim to preempt potential sabotage, terrorist acts, intelligence and subversive activities, and other enemy war crimes.

During these security operations, law enforcement officers may conduct intensified checks on citizens and inspect vehicles, specific premises, and territories to detect banned items. Temporary restrictions on walking or driving down the streets of certain settlements are also possible.

The SSU urged citizens to show understanding regarding potential inconveniences, carry identity documents at all times, comply with lawful law enforcement demands, and respect the curfew.

The agency adds that all operations comply with martial law regulations while respecting the rights and freedoms of citizens.
