A bilateral meeting between Ukrainian and Russian representatives in a restricted format is standard practice that has been applied before.

National Security and Defense Council secretary and delegation head Rustem Umerov therefore held talks with the head of the Russian delegation at trilateral negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine, Medinskyi.

The information was provided by the NSDC secretary’s spokesperson, Diana Davitian, in a comment to Suspilne.

She said that the same format had been used during talks in Istanbul, when delegation heads held separate meetings with the possibility of involving selected representatives.

Talks at that time were held at the level of delegation heads, although Rustem Umerov additionally involved military intelligence representative Vadym Skibitskyi and military officials in consultations.

This time, lawmaker David Arakhamia also attended the meeting as discussions were held within a political group. Part of the delegation had already left the talks venue at that time.

According to Diana Davitian, the sides discussed the same issues as during the main session. After the talks, the delegation reports to the president and coordinates its further positions internally.
