Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to Russia’s overnight attack on Ukraine on January 1.
This was said in a statement by the president.
“On the New Year, Russia is deliberately continuing its war: more than 200 attack drones were launched against Ukraine overnight. Most were intercepted, and I thank all our troops who repelled the attack. The strikes targeted the Volyn, Rivne, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. The targets were our energy infrastructure. Wherever needed, emergency services are responding and energy workers are restoring electricity following the strikes,” he said.
The president also urged the international community to help Ukraine fight the occupiers.
“There is scarce equipment available among our allies. We expect that everything agreed with the United States at the end of December for our defence will arrive on time,” he added.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, on the night of January 1, 2026, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 205 drones of various types, about 130 of them "Shahed" attack drones.
