Ukraine will join Trump’s Board of Peace after the war ends - Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukraine had received an invitation to join the Board of Peace initiated by Donald Trump, but that joining it was currently impossible because of the ongoing war, as Kyiv could not be on the same platform as Russia and its ally Belarus.

Zelenskyy said this in Davos on January 22.

«This is President Trump’s initiative. It is not my initiative. I am not the president of the United States, ” Zelenskyy said.

He explained that Ukraine is currently at war with Russia and that Belarus is an ally of Russia, meaning Kyiv cannot take part in events, where those countries are present.

«For us, it is clear that we will be in this war until it ends, ” he added.

The president said that Ukraine’s participation in the Board of Peace would only be possible after the end of the war and after all conditions are included in the peace plan package, that provides for monitoring and a ceasefire.

Zelenskyy says that after the war ends, he expects the Board of Peace to take part in monitoring the line of separation in the Donbas and in providing security guarantees for Ukraine together with the United States and other partners.

At the same time, the president stresses that if Ukraine joins the Board of Peace, it will not take part in efforts to settle the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
