Russian occupiers do not plan to reduce the intensity of attacks on Ukraine’s energy system in the near term. Russia is preparing new strikes on critical infrastructure both this spring and next winter.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address.

«In spring, the Russians do not intend to decrease the number or cynicism of their strikes. They are also preparing to hit critical infrastructure, ” Zelenskyy said.

According to him, Ukraine must implement two parts of its resilience strategy: preparing for attacks in the near term and systematically reinforcing the energy system for the next cold season. The aim of these measures is to avoid the catastrophic problems experienced by some communities this winter.

«Now we need to draw on the best experience from the regions, assign detailed tasks to the military and our diplomacy, and implement the two parts of the national strategy, ” the president said.

He added that the key task is to establish backup options for electricity and heat production. Cities must properly protect infrastructure against all potential threats.

«Alternative generation and heating sources, additional energy supplies, real protection — all of this is required, ” he said.

Analyzing the experience of last winter, Zelenskyy noted that the results of preparation in the regions were different. While some cities and communities were able to effectively protect people, others did not manage this task. The president thanked the community leaders who have already presented their resilience plans, and the government for developing approaches for work in the next winter season.
