Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that no European leader would obstruct a €90 billion loan for Ukraine’s defense needs. He hinted at Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, saying that if the aid were blocked, he would pass the contact details of such a person to Ukrainian military.
Zelenskyy made the remarks during a government briefing.
Funding for aviation and EU risks
The president stressed that the funds are critical for armament programs, including purchases of Gripen and Rafale fighter jets.
“You know we need a prepayment from the Ukrainian side for future aircraft, for Gripen and Rafale fighter jets. Just yesterday I discussed this with Mykhailo Fedorov. We hope that one person in the EU will not block €90 billion, or at least the first tranche, so Ukrainian troops will have the weapons,” Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that delays in funding would directly impact the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ equipment.
“Otherwise, we will give the address of this person to our military — let our guys call and talk to them in their own language,” the president added.
