The Air Force named the most important aircraft for Ukraine

Ukraine needs a multi-role aircraft capable of engaging airborne, ground, and surface targets.

To gain air superiority, the priority assistance from Western partners remains the multi-purpose F-16 fighter jets. After that, there can be discussions about strengthening the Ukrainian aviation with attack aircraft and assault helicopters to support ground forces. Air Force Spokesman Colonel Yuriy Ignat said this in a comment to "Ukrainian Pravda".

According to him, Ukraine needs a multi-purpose aircraft, capable of engaging airborne, ground, and surface targets. "The F-16 is multi-purpose and can perform a number of these functions with a wide range of weapons," Ignat emphasized.

The Spokesman for the Air Force noted that Su-25 attack aircraft are currently operating close to the front line together with army aviation helicopters (Mi-24, Mi-8). However, he added that the enemy has concentrated numerous air defense means on the front line, which, along with powerful Su-35 fighters, significantly restricts the use of our attack aircraft. Ignat emphasized that the most important thing today is to gain superiority in the air, which can be provided by both the F-16 aircraft and anti-aircraft missile systems of medium and long range.

"After that, it becomes possible to effectively use attack aircraft for the purpose of supporting ground troops. This also applies to combat helicopters, in particular, Western type helicopters (i.e. Apache, Black Hawk, etc.), which our comrades from the army aviation eagerly want to get," he noted.

The Spokesman for the Air Force pointed out that the A-10 ground-attack aircraft, mentioned by the Ground Forces Commander, serves only one purpose - providing fire support to ground forces, delivering powerful strikes on enemy positions on the ground. Additionally, it is significantly more expensive to maintain than the F-16.
