President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Great Britain Rishi Sunak signed a bilateral security agreement on Friday, January 12.

This agreement became the first in the field of security agreements in accordance with the agreements reached during the NATO Summit in Vilnius between Ukraine, members of the “Group of Seven,” and the states that joined them. Britain's security commitments under this document will be in effect until Ukraine joins NATO. As Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted in a column for “The Times”: "With British assistance, we can guarantee that freedom will defeat aggression."

"This is not just a declaration; it is a reality: we are allies working together to protect European security and defend our values,"- the President of Ukraine wrote. He also added that the agreement with Great Britain goes beyond a narrow alliance in the security sphere – it marks a new level of partnership between the states for the next hundred years.

"Great Britain has always defended freedom. For the sake of the world and our shared future, it must continue to do so. When we win together, any aggressor, whether large or small, will know what awaits them if they violate international law. We have shown that Russia can be defeated - and if we can defeat such a threat to the international order, then we can convince even the most serious potential aggressors that war will be a loss for them as well. That's why we must win. That's why we must be together. That's why our alliance matters," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
