Air defenses at critical level: Zelenskyy reveals Ukraine’s real defense situation
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine possesses more air defense systems, but Russia has significantly increased the number of ballistic missiles. The only effective counter remains the PAC 3 missiles for the Patriot system.

Ukraine’s air defense shortfall stems from a surge in Russian attacks rather than a reduction in Ukrainian missile stocks, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Speaking to Ukrainian journalists, the president said:
«We do not have fewer air defense missiles. There are simply more Russian missiles during attacks.»
According to him, Ukraine has received a small increase in air defense systems, while Russia has dramatically expanded its use of ballistic missiles. Russia also continues to obtain key components for their production from overseas, including from private firms in allied nations.
The president stressed that the only effective means of countering ballistic missiles at present are PAC 3 interceptors used with the Patriot air defense system.
«Other than PAC 3, nothing works against ballistic missiles. And for now, the key lies in the hands of the United States,» he said.
Zelenskyy also noted that Russia has multiplied its use of «Shahed”-type kamikaze drones, but Ukraine has been able to partially offset this through the development of interceptor drones and mobile fire groups.
«We are finding the tools, and we will defeat the „Shaheds.“ Without this, survival is impossible,» he said.
The president stressed that timely missile deliveries, the functioning of the PURL system (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List), and unity between the United States and Europe are crucial.
«Much depends on this unity for the safety of Ukrainians,» he said.
