The Russians want a ceasefire to strengthen their positions and gain a foothold in the seized territories. Therefore, a truce with Russia is extremely disadvantageous for Ukraine, as a well-known American military expert, Phillip Karber, who once worked as an external adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and NATO Secretary General Manfred Werner, and led the Pentagon's strategy department, said in his interview for Fakty

"The Russians definitely want a ceasefire, like in the past, when it lasted as long as it was convenient for them. If we continue to believe that we will sign an agreement with this guy (Putin - Ed.) and he will stick to it, it will not happen. This is a challenge for Ukraine," the expert said.

Karber admitted that if it were up to him, he would never agree to any ceasefire. After all, if this happens, the Russians will simply strengthen their control over the newly seized territories and concentrate additional reserves.

"Let’s suppose both sides agreed to a ceasefire and it lasts longer than a few weeks. This will primarily benefit the Russians, who will actively conduct mobilization," the analyst said.

According to the expert, if Kyiv agrees to a truce, "it will be a disaster for Ukraine."

"Even if there is no official agreement, but the fighting stops, you will get a situation similar to the one in Korea. That is, a truce, not the end of the war, because the armies will remain on the positions. After that, the Russians will accumulate forces to seize the parts of Ukraine one by one.

They have already seized most of your southern parts and the parts with the highest industrial potential. You have already suffered great losses. Although they’ve failed win, this situation, in my opinion, puts you in a very vulnerable position, because it gives them an even bigger foothold for future offensive operations," Phillip Karber summarized.
