The information that Ukraine is allegedly open to easing sanctions against Russia as part of a peace agreement, which has been spread in the media, is described as a "distorted manipulation."
This was stated by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
"After verifying the information with Ukraine's President’s authorized representative on sanctions, Vladyslav Vlasiuk, whose words the media have cited, the Center reports that, as of today, Ukraine does not support the lifting of sanctions on Russia," the NSDC Center for Countering Disinformation says.
As Vlasiuk notes, the issue of lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation will be a topic for discussion later, under certain conditions.
"Unfortunately, manipulative headlines are read more often than the content itself. Sanctions have a clear purpose - if that goal is achieved, they may be reconsidered. But it is too early to talk about lifting them: first, steps from Russia. In the future, this will be a topic for discussion, but for now, sanctions are a key lever of pressure," Vladyslav Vlasiuk said.
The National Security and Defense Council also added that "certain Ukrainian Telegram channels have taken the context out and inaccurately presented the content of a Ukrainian official's comment to the American publication Politico."
"We urge responsible handling of sensitive information," the statement concludes.
