The Russians are not only actively building defensive fortifications around Belgorod, but they are also heavily mining hydro structures of both general and special purpose.
This was reported by Colonel Vitaliy Sarantsev, spokesman for the Operational Tactical Group "Kharkiv."
"This can be viewed as a “setup” for the future. If, for example, the situation changes dramatically and the Russians have to blow up the dams to slow down the advance of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. It is also possible that Russia is preparing provocations at hydro-technical structures to later blame Ukraine for the ecological and humanitarian consequences," Sarantsev noted.
According to him, such actions by the Russian authorities could be an attempt to justify mobilization or divert attention from internal problems.
The spokesman for the Operational Tactical Group "Kharkiv" also clarified that blowing up the dams in Belgorod could lead to massive flooding, submerging settlements and an ecological disaster.
