Russia is unlikely to agree to a full moratorium on the use of drones and missiles in the war against Ukraine, as such an agreement would result in asymmetric losses specifically for Moscow.
Military expert and former SSU employee Ivan Stupak said this on the air of the «KYIV24» TV channel.
«From our side, it would indeed be important to establish such a moratorium so that long-range drones and missiles do not fly. But for Russia, this is unacceptable, ” the expert said.
According to Stupak, the Russians are deliberately taking advantage of the fact that Ukraine currently lacks missile superiority. Therefore, even if the Kremlin agrees to certain restrictions, they will be convenient only for Russia.
«They could propose: let’s ban drone strikes, because the Ukrainians have them. But missiles — let’s keep them, because you barely have any, and we do. That’s how they try to secure parity on their own terms, ” Stupak explained.
According to him, Ukraine currently lacks mass production of long-range weaponry. For example, Neptune-type missiles exist, but their «quantity is very limited, they’re produced individually, they haven’t reached serial production yet.»
«When we have missiles launched in dozens daily, then, perhaps, Russia will agree to conditions involving mutual renunciation of strikes, ” the expert concluded.
