The situation on the southern front remains tense, with Russian forces attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses and committing additional troops, including elite airborne units. The fiercest fighting is currently reported near Huliaipole.

Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesman for Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces, said this during the “United News” telethon.

Elite troops replace “cannon fodder”

According to Voloshyn, intelligence reports show Russia has shifted paratrooper units to the Huliaipole and Orikhiv sectors. The reason for such a move is simple — previous assault groups were largely destroyed by Ukrainian defenders.

“This indicates heavy Russian losses in these areas,” Voloshyn said.

31 battles in one day

The Huliaipole sector is currently one of the most difficult. Over the past day, there were about 50 clashes across the Huliaipole, Orikhiv and Oleksandrivka directions, with 31 of them in Huliaipole.

“The enemy attempted to penetrate deeper into our defenses. In the Orikhiv area, Russian forces attacked positions in Huliaipole, Dorozhnyanka, Solodke and other villages,” the spokesman said.

Beyond infantry assaults, the occupiers are heavily using aviation, leveling settlements with guided bombs.
