In Kupiansk, Kharkiv region, Russian troops used civilians, including children, as a human shield, creating additional danger for Ukrainian troops.
Kharkiv Regional Council deputy Serhii Zhukov said this on Espreso TV.
He said Ukrainian forces carried out a successful operation to free civilians, including small children, from a basement in the fighting zone.
«Civilians in the city pose a problem. There is verified evidence and documentation showing that Russians used our residents, including children, as a human shield. The operation by our forces made it possible to free the hostages, ” Zhukov said.
The deputy added that some Russian soldiers tried to blend in with the civilian population during the clearing of territories, and such incidents are not isolated, occurring not only in Kupiansk.
