We need to cover it, like Kyiv: the military expert commented on the attacks on Odesa

Reserve Colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Military Expert Roman Svitan emphasizes that to protect Odesa from Russian missile and drone attacks, a comprehensive air defense system is necessary. This includes coastal missile systems to cover the coastline, at least up to Romania.

The expert expressed this opinion in a comment to the "24 Channel."

"Odesa has long needed to be covered with a serious air defense system and not rely on grain deals. It needs to be covered in much the same way as Kyiv," the reserve colonel emphasized.

Commenting on the drone attack on Odesa during the night of September 3, when Russia launched 25 Shahed drones, with 22 of them being shot down by air defense systems, Svitan says that this is the kind of result the occupiers could have expected. After all, they don't hesitate to use drones for attacks on Ukraine.

In this way, the occupiers are trying to identify the weak points in Ukraine's air defense. Sometimes they succeed in doing so. To prevent this, Ukrainian air defense forces need to constantly maneuver and increase the number of mobile groups, according to Roman Svitan.

"Some Shahed drones are deliberately sacrificial to let a few of them get through. Knowing a certain coefficient, their task is to ensure that, for example, three Shahed drones pass through. To achieve this, they need another 22 that will be shot down for sure," explained Roman Svitan.
