According to him, the Russian occupiers are not so much interested in supplying water to the population in the occupied part of Donetsk region, but rather in ensuring that enterprises, which have resumed operations and serve Russia's interests, have access to water for technical support of their production processes.
He shared this in an interview with Espreso TV.
“All our attention is now focused on the Pokrovsk front. In my opinion, as a military man, the most important direction of the enemy’s actions is Kostiantynivka and Sloviansk. The main objective of the Russians is to carry out the Kostiantynivka–Sloviansk offensive operation with the goal of fully capturing Sloviansk and then taking control of the Dnipro–Donbas water canal (an artificial waterway that connects two of Ukraine’s largest rivers – the Dnipro and the Siverskyi Donets),” said Serhiy Kryvonos. “The biggest problem currently in Donbas is the lack of systematic water supply.”
He notes that although the Russians once built a water pipeline from the Don River to Donbas, most of the funds allocated for the project were embezzled, and as a result, it failed to solve the water supply problem. Residents of occupied Donetsk report that water is available only for a few hours once every three days.
“The Russian occupiers are not primarily concerned with providing water to the civilian population, but with ensuring that the enterprises working for Russia’s benefit have water for their technical processes. Therefore, the biggest issue the enemy wants to resolve is the water problem. And this problem can only be solved in the Sloviansk direction,” the general noted.
According to him, while the actions taken by the enemy in both the Pokrovsk and Kupiansk directions are significant, the main focus over time will shift to the Lyman–Sloviansk and Kostiantynivka–Sloviansk directions. The enemy will make every effort to take control of the situation there.
