Ukraine will need at least 200,000 European peacekeepers to prevent a new Russian attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement on January 21 at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

After a ceasefire agreement is reached, Ukraine will require at least 200,000 European peacekeepers.

"200,000 is the minimum. It's the minimum, otherwise it's nothing," Zelenskyy said.

He also pointed out that such forces would only be part of the security guarantees Ukraine needs.

According to him, Russian president Putin might propose a possible demand to reduce Ukraine's army by five times.

Zelenskyy noted that reducing Ukraine's army by such a significant amount will be one of the key issues in any potential peace negotiations.

"It’s clear: if we were able to create an army of over 800,000, then we, along with Europe, have an army capable not only of defending but also of resisting Putin... That’s what he wants. We will not allow this to happen," the President said.
