In his commentary for TSN.ua, military expert Oleg Zhdanov assumed that Russia was pushing Iran into war against Saudi Arabia. The Kremlin needs another conflict in order to distract global attention from the war in Ukraine.
"The war between Iran and Saudi Arabia is actually pretty possible. WE know that Iran supports the Yemen's Houthis to attack Saudi Arabia. Their key goal is to decrease the volume of oil production. Iran wants to sell its oil at least on the gray market. Still, as long as I understand, Iran is not particularly willing to get involved in a war right now. It could be the Russian Federation pushing Iran into another conflict: on the one hand they ask for weapons from Iran, and on the other hand they instigate it. Russia would benefit from potential conflict, because a new war could distract attention from our war with Russia. This is a very complicated political formula. To some extent, it would be good for us as well, since then Iran may not be able to supply weapons to Russia. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia has already asked the United States for military assistance. This may turn out to be a problem for us, because then our partners will give us fewer weapons. Therefore, the Russian Federation will do anything to distract attention from Ukraine," Oleh Zhdanov explained.
