500 drones target Ukrainian region, locals recount chilling details

Russian troops once again carried out a large-scale strike on Zaporizhzhia and the region using hundreds of drones. In the regional centre itself, a residential district came under attack. Seven other people were injured. All of them are residents of nearby buildings who were either inside their homes or close by at the time of the explosion.

Liudmyla Veremenko, a Zaporizhzhia resident: «This yard has been hit for the second time. Life is „fun“ here every day. I ran out onto the balcony because my husband was supposed to arrive from work. His minibus passed literally two minutes before that. I was shaking so much.»

«Like a moped picking up speed»: victims describe attack

Local residents say they saw the drone diving near apartment buildings. The sound of the «Shahed’s» engine terrified people trying to find shelter at the last moment.

Kateryna Bilokon, injured resident: «It sounded like a moped accelerating — vzzzh. We managed to run out.»

Condition of injured children and power situation

Two children aged 11 and 18 months were among the injured, though their lives are not in danger. Adults’ injuries were assessed as non-serious, and all were discharged for outpatient treatment.

The attack left parts of the district without electricity and heating. Utility crews worked overnight boarding up broken windows, and heating shelters were set up for residents of damaged apartments.

Russia launched 500 drones at the Zaporizhzhia region

The Zaporizhzhia region faced a heavy drone assault, with about 500 drones launched at towns and villages over 24 hours. Alongside «Shaheds», the enemy is actively using «Molniya» drones.

The southern district of Zaporizhzhia was among the hardest hit, although most targets were intercepted by air defenses.
