The Kremlin described the talks on ending the war in Ukraine — held in Abu Dhabi with Ukrainian, Russian and U.S. participation — as “constructive and complex work”, while also saying dialogue with Washington on strategic nuclear weapons needs to resume.
Russian president Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed consultations in the United Arab Emirates would continue, Russian propaganda media reported.
He said discussions in Abu Dhabi were complicated but seen by Russia as a “working process”.
“Regarding consultations on resolving the situation in Ukraine held in Abu Dhabi, the work will continue,” Peskov said.
Beyond the issue of peace in Ukraine, the Kremlin again sought to engage the United States in direct dialogue on nuclear deterrence. Peskov said both countries allegedly “recognize the need” to start talks on the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).
Media previously reported non-public or semi-public consultations in the UAE capital involving representatives of various sides. Ukraine says its “Peace Formula” is the only basis for ending the war, while Russia continues using such venues to promote its interests and push for sanctions relief.
