Fresh Kremlin meltdown: Loud statements follow strikes on St. Petersburg
Ukraine’s strike on oil infrastructure near St. Petersburg has triggered a nervous reaction in the Kremlin and among Russian officials.
The Kremlin.
The strike on oil infrastructure in St. Petersburg was a direct blow to the Kremlin, especially since the Ukrainian attack occurred at night — right before the start of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Now, Moscow is once again talking about an alleged willingness to negotiate.
This is evident from statements made by Russian officials directly on the sidelines of the forum.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin once again defiantly repeated the narrative that «Russia is open to negotiations.» According to him, the Kremlin’s position «on finding paths toward a politico-diplomatic peaceful settlement is well known.»
At the same time, he brazenly rejected the possibility of a direct dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, speaking instead of a «negotiation track in a Russia-USA-Ukraine format.» Galuzin also opposed the idea of involving European countries in the peace process, claiming they «do not feature in this three-way negotiation scheme at all.» Furthermore, he accused European states of holding a «hostile, destructive position toward Russia.»
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who has repeatedly and hysterically threatened Kyiv, claimed that Russian-American contacts regarding the situation around Ukraine are ongoing. She did not provide details but brought up the «spirit of Anchorage» again. According to her, the aggressor country is ready to continue talks with Washington that began at the Alaska summit.
At the same time, Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s representative for economic cooperation, stated that Russia values the work of US President Donald Trump’s team regarding peace talks. According to him, communication between the countries «takes place several times a week.»
