One factor could shift tone of Ukraine peace talks: Zhorin outlines key condition

The course of fighting directly influences Russia’s position in the negotiation process.

This was stated by Maksym Zhorin, Deputy Commander of Ukraine’s Third Army Corps, in an interview with Army TV.

According to him, Russia will continue the war as long as it achieves even limited success on the battlefield.

Zhorin notes that despite public statements about readiness for negotiations, there have been no real changes in Russia’s approach.

«Russia is not demonstrating any real interest. Despite the public image of readiness for peace, in reality they remain in the same positions and continue combat operations, ” he said.

In his view, the key factor is battlefield dynamics, which determine whether Russia is willing to change its rhetoric.

He stressed that halting the advance of Russian forces could influence the tone of future negotiations.

Condition for containing the enemy

Zhorin also said that Ukraine has the potential to contain Russian forces, but requires stronger military capabilities and modern technological solutions.

He added that qualitative modernization of the armed forces could be key to stabilizing the situation on the front.
