Former Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko proposed a realistic alternative to NATO for Ukraine — joining the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force, which unites 10 Northern European countries.

Ukrainian diplomat and former Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko outlined a viable alternative to NATO for Ukraine.
He shared this in an interview with Radio Svoboda.
“You know, there’s this Joint Expeditionary Force led by the UK, which includes 10 Northern European countries, our closest friends. If Ukraine, for example, could become a member of this security alliance, it would be easier for us. The UK leads it, and there’s no Hungary, for instance. These are all like-minded countries. Being part of such an alliance and maintaining a very strong national army — this is a real solution for us,” he emphasized.
Prystaiko also noted that if the U.S. were to withdraw from NATO, the Alliance would not survive for long.
“If, for example, we can no longer rely on the United States, which is the backbone of the Alliance, people may not fully understand this. The foundation of the Alliance is the nuclear deterrent forces of the United States. Nothing else. Not Estonian medical units or Croatian logistics. Nuclear deterrent forces. If the United States withdraws, this Alliance won’t last long,” the diplomat concluded.
