The country remains willing to continue talks with Ukraine. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that any potential summit should aim to bring the process to a conclusion, Russian media report.

Lavrov claimed that following a phone conversation with President Trump the day before yesterday, the Russian president proposed not only continuing the talks but also considering elevating the level of delegation leadership.

“And this fits within the proposal I just mentioned, that within this process a separate block would be devoted to addressing the political aspects of a settlement, alongside military and humanitarian issues,” the Russian foreign minister added.

According to Lavrov, Russia expects President Trump to “explain the idea to the Kyiv representatives” and receive their response.

“This would be an important step in raising the level of negotiations, increasing their concreteness, and moving closer to addressing key issues that need to be resolved for a sustainable settlement,” Lavrov said.

He maintained that Russia is ready for any format. However, when it comes to high-level meetings, they must be “carefully prepared so that summits do not worsen the situation but instead bring the negotiations to a close.”
