Support for Ukraine: European leaders set key decisions at "critical stage"

European leaders, who arrived at the residence of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, made brief statements to the press.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the ongoing talks as a “critical stage in the pursuit of peace”: “Matters concerning Ukraine are matters for Ukraine itself.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked allies for organizing the meeting: “What is very important today is… unity between Europe, Ukraine, and the United States. I believe it is crucial to hold such meetings.”
French President Emmanuel Macron commented on the impact of recent sanctions on Russia’s economy and expressed support for Ukraine:
“The Russian economy is starting to suffer, especially after our latest sanctions. We all support Ukraine, and we all support peace.”
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he is “skeptical of certain details in documents coming from the US” and added that this is exactly why the leaders met today:
“This could be a decisive moment for all of us, so we are trying to continue our support for Ukraine… the fate of this country — Ukraine — is the fate of Europe.”
