U.S. and Russian presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have different values and ambitions, making an end to the war impossible. The Kremlin leader will not agree to a truce.
Political analyst Oleh Saakian said this on "Kyiv 24".
According to the expert, Putin and Trump think in entirely different terms. The American President wants to be remembered as a great businessman and political leader, so he offers Putin large, lucrative deals.
Putin, for whom Ukraine is his grand project, is willing to spend billions and sacrifice hundreds of thousands of lives to achieve it.
"Putin will not agree to a ceasefire because, for him, Ukraine is part of a larger geopolitical game, whereas Trump doesn’t understand this — he evaluates the situation in terms of big financial deals," Saakian said.
Thus, Trump never had a chance from the start to secure a truce or achieve quick victories in negotiations with Russia.
