When peace talks with Russia could begin: Sybiha names the sole condition
Negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine will begin once the Kremlin’s actions demonstrate a genuine readiness for peace.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha
Ukraine has confirmed its willingness to engage in peace talks in any format. Discussions on a peace agreement may start as soon as Russia agrees to a ceasefire lasting at least 30 days.
This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha in a post on social media platform X.
"As soon as we see that Russia is truly ready for the difficult path toward peace — not just for peace populism or a short-term propaganda-driven ceasefire ahead of the May 9 parade," Sybiha noted.
He adds that the Kremlin has an opportunity to show the world its genuine readiness for peace negotiations. To do this, it simply needs to agree to a lasting ceasefire.
"If Russia is ready for a 60- or 90-day ceasefire, so are we. Russia must stop talking about its readiness for peace and start acting… Once the weapons fall silent, negotiations can begin — in any format that brings peace," the Foreign Minister emphasized.
