Why Trump refuses ceasefire in Ukraine after Alaska meeting — Kyslytsya explains

Trump has changed his position on the war in Ukraine and seeks to end it “without a ceasefire.”

The rhetoric of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the settlement of the war in Ukraine has shifted. Now he rejects a ceasefire in favor of a comprehensive peace.

First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Kyslytsya, in an interview with “Suspilne Novyny,” commented on the change in the American president’s position.

According to the diplomat, Trump’s leadership, despite controversial assessments, forced Vladimir Putin at least to consider the possibility of negotiations, although for now he is not ready for real steps.

“It is very unfortunate that we did not receive enough weapons from Western countries to resolve the problem in another way. But the meeting in Alaska became part of a complex diplomatic process, which also led to important Ukrainian-American and European-American negotiations,” Kyslytsya said.

He stressed that diplomacy in wartime is an extremely complex and multi-layered process, in which it is impossible to act headlong.

“President Trump said that he ended six conflicts without a ceasefire. He is interested in ending the bloodshed as soon as possible. But I did not hear from him the phrase "no ceasefire." He said: "Can you do it? Try. But the main thing for me is to end the war,” Kyslytsya explains Trump’s change of position after the Alaska meeting.

Thus, according to the Ukrainian diplomat, it is not about rejecting a ceasefire, but about seeking a broader and lasting peace agreement that could guarantee a sustainable end to the war.
