President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The leaders discussed communication with the U.S. and European countries on peace, and agreed on further development of energy cooperation.
According to Zelenskyy, he congratulated Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on the agreements reached with Armenia through the mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump. These agreements, in his view, create preconditions for lasting peace and security in the South Caucasus region.
«The world has reacted very positively to the trilateral meeting in Washington. We hope everything will work out, ” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian President informed Aliyev about Kyiv’s contacts with international partners. He emphasized that all sides are committed to a real end to the war and effective diplomacy, and discussed key principles that could bring peace closer.
Energy cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan was a separate topic. Zelenskyy reported on the results achieved and the agreement to work on expanding cooperation. He also spoke about Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities, calling them an attempt to block energy routes vital for the independence of Ukraine and Europe.
«We are doing everything to protect our country and our people, ” the Head of State stressed.
